The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has identified 31,690 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Anambra State that remain unclaimed ahead of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
INEC released this figure based on its 2023 data, which also showed that residents had collected 2,624,764 PVCs across the state.
The CVR exercise, a key part of Nigeria’s electoral process, allows eligible citizens to register, update personal details, or transfer their voting locations. INEC expects the exercise to significantly increase Anambra’s current voter population, which stands at 2,656,437.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, recently announced that the commission was finalizing preparations for the CVR in preparation for the election. He emphasized the need to begin the registration process urgently and promised that more information would follow shortly.
“We are aware of the urgency to commence the CVR, particularly given the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State,” Yakubu stated. “We want to assure Nigerians that we are finalising our preparations for both activities, the details of which will soon be made public.”
With thousands of PVCs yet to be collected and new registrants expected during the CVR, the state’s voting population is projected to rise before the election.
On Wednesday, INEC published the final list of candidates and officially flagged off campaign activities. According to Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the list followed the completion of candidate substitutions and verification of submitted personal information.
Sixteen political parties met the May 12, 2025 submission deadline and will contest in the upcoming election.
